About This Spot

Nestled just behind the Adolphus Tower on busy Main Street, The Mitchell unfolds like a quiet, timeless retreat from the city's rush. As you step inside, the gentle hum of jazz softly fills the air, setting a measured, almost cinematic pace for the evening. This isn’t a place that rushes you along; it invites you to pause, linger, and sink into a moment where the clink of glasses and the murmur of good company feel perfectly balanced.

The atmosphere strikes a refined yet unpretentious chord—elegantly dim, with warm wood tones and intimate seating that encourage conversation. It’s the sort of cocktail bar where the bartenders take their craft seriously, offering imaginative drinks that feel personal and thoughtful rather than flashy. Whether it’s a perfectly stirred martini or a cocktail layered with subtle seasonal flavors, each sip seems to tell a little story.

Beyond the drinks, The Mitchell pairs its jazz soundtrack with an adventurous menu that surprises at every turn. The food invites discovery—think of it as little indulgences that elevate the experience. From delicate oysters and luxuriously rich escargots to unexpected touches like pastry-wrapped brie brightened with pickled strawberries, each bite complements the attentive rhythm of the evening. This is a place where southern charm meets culinary curiosity, and the quality speaks quietly but confidently.

Local musicians add to the layers of texture here, turning some nights into an elegant passage through time with live jazz that feels both classic and freshly alive. For anyone seeking a blend of comfort and sophistication, where the mood is both relaxed and charged with a subtle energy, The Mitchell offers a unique corner of Dallas to savor — one that feels discovered rather than designed.

I’m not sure what the best happy hour in Dallas is, but it’s not NOT this one. Bartender was great, martini was everything I wanted, oysters were a freaking dollar??? Knocked a star for atmosphere because it smells kind of ick in here, like a weird dirty drain smell.

First the service is incredible. Professional, knowledgeable, kind and engaging. The cocktails & jazz music provide an amazing ambiance. But the real 1000/10 is the food. The chef is brings culinary innovation that is worthy of the highest praise.

love the jazz nights, our bartender Anna is amazing and such a professional! With their creative and delicious cocktails, this cozy bar will transport you to another time in style.

This is a truly amazing bar with an incredible atmosphere. We are from Switzerland and we can assure everyone: you have to travel far to find such a jewel. The drinks are awesome, and there are some rare rums - and by chance we ran into a cigar night: the selection of Cuban cigars was awesome. We had a “35 Anniversary” Montecristo, to die for. Live Jazz music, lots of happy people, a great place.

Looking for an elegant speakeasy that serves oysters with black caviar and champagne; escargots, frog legs and more, in the heart of Downtown D! All while having local musicians play jazz or other ambient live music, then this place is a must-try! It’s right behind the Adolphus Tower on Main St. They also host oyster happy hours once in awhile. The oysters and caviar prices are great, the quality of oysters was (PEIs and others east coast bivalves depending on the day and market), as well as caviar - priced reasonably! You can light up a cigar on the outside patio. They play old b&w movies on the screens. The bar is ample, including wine choices. I love the noir/gold color scheme and beautiful crystal glassware, and the chandeliers are a showstopper! Thoroughly enjoyable evening

Fantastic spot for cocktails and food in downtown Dallas. Service is great, as are the cocktails. It’s a nice fairly chill vibe normally, does not get crazy like some other bars in the area, and they often have live jazz music. They have $1 oyster happy hour Mondays and these oysters are delicious! Recommend the frog legs and beef tartare as well. Looking forward to trying additional menu options when I return!

Amazing place! If Anna (the best bartender in the universe) isn’t too busy, ask her to surprise you with a drink of her choice. She’s basically the ChatGPT of cocktails—except her answers come in a glass. 10/10, would sip again!

I love coming here for an evening happy hour with $1 oysters, a good cocktail or a $5 beer. It has a very 1920’s or 30’s kind of vibe and on some evenings they have a good jazz band playing. Fantastic selection of whiskeys/bourbons (both US and Japan), and gin although you can get anything but these are their specialties. Fun outdoor sitting area too. Even the bathroom has a fun vibe lol. Sometimes it is packed with people and other times no one but don’t let that discourage you. Check it out for yourself.
